Writing a news lead (or lede)

Who? Robert and Michael Rosengerg

What? parents are being put to death.

When? Friday, June 19, 1953

Where? Sing Sing

Why? They were activist parents

How? 1990s, the government released decrypted wartime Soviet cables that further implicated their father. Then David Greenglass the uncle, who was an Army machinist at Los Alamos, N.M., where the atomic bomb was made, and was recruited by Julius Rosenberg as a spy, admitted that he fabricated the most damning testimony against their mother but insisted that Julius was guilty of the formal charge, conspiracy to commit espionage.

Identify the lead. They were the most famous orphans of the cold war, in 1953 only 6 & 10 yrs old. when their parents were executed at Sing for delivering atomic-bomb secrets to the Soviet Union. Then they were whisked from an unwanted limelight to urban anonymity and eventually to suburban obscurity.

Re-write the lead using your own words.
Michael and Robert Rosenberg's parents were executed at Sing Sing for delivering bomb secrets to the soviet Union in 1953. This made them the most famous orphans of the cold war.

Sports/Action more details

 1
  • Photographer name: Sam Adams
  • General focus of portfolio: The video was made to show love/pain, because the judges were talking about how there wasn't really any love/pain shown on the photos.
  • List 3 problems that the judges note with the portfolio: They thought that the pictures were of a certain distance, they don't feel the love of the pain in none of the pictures, and there wasn't enough strong single pictures.
  • list 2 things the judges like: background shadows
  • what is your overall impression? what did you like or not like? I personally didn't like how the video was set up. I think that they could of taken better pictures for this because it is kind of confusing to understand what the video is really about
2
  • What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it? The judges liked all of the pictures, they had very good comments about the pictures and I also think that the guy did a good job with this portfolio.
  • What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses? He was really creative with his photos and he made them look really nice, but he also had a couple photos that looked the same.
3
  • They went through all the photos that the people took then said what they had to much/little of or what they could have done to make it better.

1
  • Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it. The photo I agreed with the judges about was the wave photo. There could have been more action in it that could have made it better.
2
  • Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong. I disagreed with the first photo of the first video. The one of the race car. I actually think the photo was good and the camera positioned in the right place. I thought it was really good and you can tell how fast the race car driver was going.

Japanese Earthquake

When i see this photo, i see the before and after photos. You see the big change that happened after the tsunami.

This is what happened after the tsunimi. The building is distroyed and people are traped and have no where to go. They have to wait till someone could rescue them.

The people on the roof are traped and they put a S.O.S up on the roof so someone could come and save them.

Touching people

Touching people

1) I think this project & photo essay was a good idea because its a good way to meet people.

2) If someone said they wanted to take a picture of me touching a stranger i would hesitate at first and be uncofortable touching someone else but then I'd be okay with it.

3) Something similar that i would enjoy shooting would be where people dress up like something they not. For an exaple: a holloween party or something.

4) I think that the photographer used simplicity in all the photos. The photographer always had a subjects in the center of the photo so that the person looking at the photo would automatically pay attention to the main subjects.

Cool advertising idea

AT&T

This one is one of my favorites because of how it is well drawn on a hand and the details. I like how the geisha woman's are holding the AT&T phone. I think this would encourage me to get AT&T because it shows how creative they are and how they work everywhere you go.

Types of Magazine covers

Cover types
  1. Early magazine covers- almost always paintings, they tend to be religious or high moral, they tend to ask questions.
  2. The poster cover- one big picture no boarder, less text, small text, the text doesn't interfere with the photo. the picture haves to be really good or a recognized thing Disadvantage: the cover doesn't really help you to tell you whats the magazine is about,  if they don't put a good photo it'll be a big risk that people might not buy the magazine.
  3. Pictures married to type- the words help the photo, the words don't interfere with the photo. Advantage: you can see the photo more, words go with photo. the words and the picture go together. Disadvantage: you don't know whats inside, there aren't that entry points into the magazine.
  4. In the forest of the words- tons of words or texts. A lot of words, different font, different sizes. Disadvantage: too much to look at, too many words, covers your photo

Stuff you find in a magazine cover
You have to have a bar code or a price tag. There is a date

#2 Vanity Fair (August 1991)
Vanity Fairs provocative magazine cover shot of the naked and hugely pregnant Demi Moore (also shot by Annie Leibovitz) projected the actress to even greater heights after the huge success of the movie Ghost the previous year. The cover helped firmly establish Moore as a member of Hollywoods A-List at the time.

Portrait and self-portrait tips and ideas

Good TIPS
1) Focussing is easier if you use a smaller aperture; My favourite lens at the moment is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4, (hence the abundance of photos taken with it on Flickr, I suppose) but I’d probably not use it wide-open when taking self portraits; It’s tricky enough to get the focus right when you’re behind the camera – when you’re on the wrong side of the lens, having a slightly deeper DOF is a lot easier!
2) Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.
3) Use props! Are you a dad and a rocker? Bring your kid and your guitar. Are you a photographer? Add camera gear. Painter? Paint. Poet? Words. Make-up artist? Guess… You get the idea.

Environmental portrait

I like this photo because everything in this photo is in black and white but the lady in the red dress.
The lady in a red dress really got my attention.

I like this photo because of the structure of the building and the ballerina in the middle. It really caught my eye and i really like it a lot.

photography self portrait

I like this photo because its way back then when japan or where ever it is had Samurai's.
I love samurai's, i think its a pretty cool photo.

I love this photo because she used another photo of her or someone else's face to put over hers.

casual portrait

I like this photo because it is casual.
The girls with violins are just talking like no one is taking the photo

I like this photo because the girl is watching the teacher or outside.
Not knowing there is a person taking her photo.

First of all I'm not completely sure who I'm going to take a picture of but there is a possibility it is my friend Ana a freshman or Destinee a Senior. I want to take a picture in the band hall, where the window is at because of the view of outside or in the fish hall. This time i will make sure the lighting is right and clear. Nothing distracting in the background just the main subject of the photo and not to make it a bad negative or print this time.
